Understand your clients’ objectives and then deliver on them through the proper combination of strategies. But hand in hand with the structure of the financial and asset management plan is delivering timely and frequent client performance reviews with clear and comprehensive reporting.
I think this is critical to do in person, as frequently as possible and preferably once a quarter. Reviews are the most important thing in your practice. Most advisors don’t personally meet their clients often enough. I probably log 2,000-3,000 miles per month driving to meet with clients. I know my clients are appreciative and tell their friends, “I meet with my advisor just about every three months.” That generates a lot of positive word-of-mouth and referrals.
